'One Nation One Election' Report Cleared, Bill Likely in Parliament's Winter Session
Sources indicate that the bill will likely be presented in the upcoming winter session of Parliament.
'One Nation, One Election' report was presented by former President Ram Nath Kovind to President Droupadi Murmu.
The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal for One Nation One Election, moving closer to holding simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state Assemblies.
Sources indicate that the bill will likely be presented in the upcoming winter session of Parliament.
This decision follows a report from a high-level committee led by former President Ram Nath Kovind.
The Modi 2.0 government established this panel to assess the viability of holding elections at the same time, and it submitted its findings to the President in March.
Recently, the BJP has been promoting the idea of One Nation One Election more vigorously, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioning it in his Independence Day speech.
He emphasised that simultaneous elections are essential, arguing that frequent elections disrupt the country's development.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also supported this stance earlier this week, stating that One Nation One Election would be put into effect during the NDA’s current term.
